Find your path

Choose the system that fits your goals.

There is no single correct route into Mandarin. We choose the writing and pronunciation systems that match where and how you want to use the language.

Writing system

Simplified Chinese

Standardised characters with fewer strokes, used mainly in Mainland China and Singapore.

学 · learn

Writing system

Traditional Chinese

Characters that preserve the historical structure of the writing system, used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

學 · learn

Pronunciation

Zhuyin

Bopomofo uses dedicated symbols to represent Mandarin pronunciation and is mainly used in Taiwan.

學 → ㄒㄩㄝˊ
ā

Pronunciation

Pinyin

Pinyin uses the Latin alphabet with tone marks to represent Mandarin pronunciation.

學 / 学 → xué
Not sure where to start?

Choose based on where you plan to use Mandarin and which system feels most natural. I’m happy to help you find what works best for you.

This might be you

You want Mandarin to feel real.

Maybe you’ve saved videos, downloaded apps, bought a textbook, or told yourself that this time you’ll finally do it properly.

  • You want to learn, but you’re not sure where to start.
  • You know some words, but when it’s time to speak, you hesitate.
  • You translate in your head and lose the moment.
  • You’ve been studying, but it still feels like you don’t have a clear system.

Sometimes the hardest part is not effort. It’s that what comes out still doesn’t sound like you.

Understanding why learners feel stuck

From learning words to meaningful communication.

Meaningful communication grows from connecting vocabulary into real expression.

01

Knowing words isn’t the same as communicating

You can recognise vocabulary and still not know how to form a sentence that feels natural in real life.

02

Without structure, everything feels scattered

Textbooks and apps teach pieces of language, but not always how to use them flexibly in your own life.

03

Adults already have useful learning strengths

Patterns, logic, and sentence building become much easier when the system is clearly explained.

A different way to learn Mandarin

Learn how Mandarin is actually used.

Build sentences, not just vocabulary

Focus on how ideas are formed so you can communicate more quickly and naturally.

Understand patterns and logic

See how Mandarin works, then use that structure with more confidence.

Train pronunciation with clarity

Hear sound patterns and build pronunciation that feels stable and accurate.

Learn to think in Mandarin

Move away from mental translation and toward responses that sound like your own voice.

Real student outcomes

Progress through lessons and structured courses.

Learners build confidence, clarity, and a deeper connection with Mandarin.

Speaking confidence

“I could recognise words before, but I couldn’t form my own sentences. Now I can actually respond in Mandarin without freezing.”

Pronunciation clarity

“Tones used to feel stressful and random. Now I understand what I’m hearing and what I need to adjust when I speak.”

A clearer system

“For the first time, Mandarin feels organised in my head. I finally know what I’m practising and why.”

Lin, Mandarin teacher from Taiwan

About me

I teach Mandarin through language, structure, and human connection.

I’m Lin, a Mandarin teacher from Taiwan. Over the years, I’ve taught learners from different countries, ages, and backgrounds, both online and in person.

My life has been shaped by language and cultural movement. I’ve lived in Taiwan, Mainland China, Spain, and the UK, and I speak Mandarin, English, and Spanish. That experience deeply influences how I teach.

I know what it feels like to express yourself clearly in one language, and then search for that same version of yourself in another. That’s why I care about helping students find not just correct Mandarin, but personal Mandarin.

A more personal layer

Thoughtful teaching grows from real life too.

Outside lessons, I care deeply about communication, culture, and the small details that make language feel alive. Lessons become more personal over time because we work with topics from your own world.

This is why I value patience, listening, and flexibility. I want students to feel understood, not processed.

Start somewhere that feels right

Choose your next step.

Whether you want a lesson, a structured course, or a simple place to begin, you don’t need to figure it all out alone.
